SELAH: Studying God's Songbook

Selah: Studying God's Songbook
About The Book:  Selah Studying God's Songbook by Betty Henderson is an easy-to-follow study of select psalms. Each of the twelve lessons presents a theme for the lesson, commentary, and study helps. Lesson titles include "Songs for Waking or Sleeping," "Guidelines for Godliness," and "Something to Sing About." Psalms has long been a favorite book among Bible students and readers because of the wide scope of human emotions expressed and life principles taught. Women who enjoy the Psalms will delight in this Bible study.

My Thoughts On The Book:  The book Selah delves into the interpretations of some select Psalms, and it is amazing!  I ended up doing some background research on the word Selah and found that the word “selah” is found in two books of the old testament, but is most prevalent in the Psalms, where it appears 71 times.  One translation of the word “selah” is calah  means “to hang” or “to measure or weigh in the balances.”   “Selah” is also thought to be rendered from two Hebrew words: s_lah, “to praise”; and s_lal, “to lift up, ” or from salah, “to pause.”  When we see the word in a psalm we should pause to carefully weigh the meaning of what we have just read or heard, lifting up our hearts in praise to God for His great truths. “All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah! (Psalm 66:4). Each chapter in the book ends with a Selah or pause, and some points to ponder.  My favorite part was the hymn at the end which makes the songs in the Psalms come alive for me.  I love the Psalms and find their beauty thrilling.  Each time I read them I find myself looking inside my own life and wondering where I may be lacking.  This book's cover is gorgeous and very peaceful.  This is a definite book for you library.  I loved it!
