Hodge Podge on Sept 11th Anniversary

Today is Hodgepodge Day and Joyce has really come up with some thought provoking questions.  Want to participate?  Hop over to Joyce's blog, grab the questions, answer them, and hop back over to link up with her.
1. What's the best thing about growing older?  There are a lot of things I think are wonderful about growing older.  You get discounts at Ross Dress for Less on Tuesday, and most restaurants will give you a free coffee/tea.  I also am getting ready to retire.  I am a grandmother.  I have grown kids. I don't have to go to Six Flags anymore.

2. When did you first feel like a grown up?  When I held my daughter in my arms and knew that she depended on me.

3. Chocolate cake with white icing or white cake with chocolate icing?  White cake with chocolate icing if I have to choose one.  I prefer strawberry cake, key lime cake, spice cake....and definitely prefer cream cheese frosting.  My first pick of any sweet would be apple pie.

4. What's the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you?  Changed a flat tire for me....down a hill...on a hot June day (102 degrees) and I was 8.5 months pregnant and did not have a spare.  I was sitting on the sidewalk...in the middle of town....squalling my eyes out.  An elderly gentleman stopped, gave me his spare, changed my tire...and told me my husband should be horsewhipped for letting me be riding in a car with tires that were that bad.  I tried to give him the only 20.00 I had on me and he told me he hoped someone would stop and help his wife if she needed help.  He never even told me his name.  He made me aware that stopping and helping people is a random act of kindness that we must do.

5. What's something you learned from your grandparents? From my mom's dad - how to play the guitar.  From my mom's mom - how to hug and mean it.  From my dad's mom-how to sew.  From all of them how to treat other people with respect and how to love and serve God.

6. Wednesday marks a sad day in the history of planet earth-9/11...what's something you do (or can do) to bring peace to your little corner of the world?  Keep gossip to myself.  Serve God and love my fellow neighbors.

7. Share a favorite quote, scripture, or song containing the word peace. Sorry I have to use the whole song.  It is the most powerful one I know.

"Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step i take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me."
8. Insert your own random thought here.  One of my pet peeves is to be in traffic.....where there have been signs for the last 2 miles telling you that there is a closed lane ahead.....moving over like I was told and then watching cars continue to pass me....and then try to push there way in ....once the bottle neck occurs.  GRRRRRRR,,,,I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars(or a semi truck) teams up to prevent the idiot from cutting in at the front. It makes me want to roll down my window and shout....Stay strong, brothers!  What do those nonconformists think they have to be somewhere before me?  What is your take on this dilemma?

Oh I get JUST as annoyed as you do! And on my morning commute there are two places where two lanes narrow down to one. And in both cases the left lane ENDS. And which lane do most people stubbornly cling to until they HAVE to move over? The left one! (now you've got me all het up - ha!).

Yes, children definitely make us grow up quickly. I like cream cheese frosting or whipped cream....no buttercream for me! I love the kindness of strangers. Love the song you chose. (choose?I'm never sure)
