Wednesday Hodge Podge - Volume 209

Here are Joyce's questions to this week's Wednesday Hodgepodge. Answer on your own blog, then hop back to her blog by clicking here share your answers with the universe. See you there!

1. When did you last have to interact, either by phone or in person, with someone in a government run agency? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the experience? (10 being fabulous and 1 being pass the Tylenol).  This week and it was a pass the Tylenol experience.  I was on the phone for 1.5 hours and was put on hold...and transferred 10 times.

2. The current governor of Wisconsin is considering a run for President next time around. Walker attended Marquette University, but never graduated. In terms of any candidate running for the office of President (not asking here if you agree or disagree with Scott Walker's politics) would the lack of a college degree influence your vote or no? Would that be a factor in your support of any candidate running for public office, even a role less weighty than President?  Lack of a college degree is a red flag....and while I am at it....so is no military experience.
3. When did you last visit a place or site named for George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, and what was that place or site?  It has been a few years and I went to the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.
4. February 16th was President's Day in the US, but did you know it was also National Almond Day? I didn't think so : ) Do you like almonds? If so, what's a food/dish/recipe you enjoy that contains almonds?  I am not a huge fan of almonds or almond flavoring in abundance.  I do make a mean Christmas cheese ball that looks like a pinecone...because of the almonds on the outside of it.

5.The television program Saturday Night Live celebrated it's 40th anniversary this past weekend. Were/are you a fan of the show? If so what has been your favorite (or one of your favorite) skits, sayings, or characters that came out of the program?  In the beginning I was a big fan.  I loved Roseanne Roseanna Danna, Father Guido Sarduchi, the Church Lady, the Spartan Cheerleaders. I actually use the "well how special" comment the Church Lady always said...in Spanish....in my classes.  The kids love it.
6. Anything purple within ten feet of you? What is it?  There is a purple Pilot G-2 pen I used to grade papers with last night sitting beside my computer.
7. Back in December I asked you to submit a question for a future HP as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I grabbed this one from those entries, submitted by Zoanna who blogs over at Penchant for Pens. Thanks Zoanna!

She asks, "How often do you make your bed, and how do you like to make it-pull the covers all the way up over the pillows, tuck the covers in around the pillows, or place all the pillows on top of the covers?"  I make it daily and I put the pillows on top of the covers.
8. Insert your own random thought here. Today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.  How many of you have ever been to Mardi Gras/Carnival?  What was your favorite thing about it?  I personally have never been because I have a huge fear of large groups of people.  I do however have beads I wore yesterday....from the New Orleans Mardi Gras store.

Never been to Mardi Gras, and never had a burning desire to go. I would love to sample the beignets though : )

No military experience is a huge red flag for me, too. Too bad it isn't for apparently a lot of people.
Never been to Mardi Gras or Carnivale. I'd like to go to New Orleans just once for Mardi Gras...just to say I've done it. I'd also like to go to Punxsatawny, Pa. for Groundhog Day...just once!

I've never been to Mardi Gras or Carnival and have no intentions of going. Large crowds aren't my thing, either.

I agree with you on the military for a President. This may sound crazy but that is how I feel about priests giving marriage advice when they have never been married. I still watch SNL and their are some very talented people but they can never compare to those original casts back in the day! I have never been to a Mardi Gras and we never did lent in my church growing up.

Ah, a very interesting point about the military experience or lack thereof. Definitely something to consider. I've always wondered how difficult it is for military personnel to deal with their Commander in Chief. It must be so frustrating.
