2015 April A-Z Challenge - M Is For My Birthday!

Today it is going to be all about me!  You see today the letter M is for My Birthday.  Today is Tax Day....it is the day Lincoln died....it is the day the Titanic sank.....it is MY Birthday!  I have great childhood memories about my birthday.  When I was a child my mom and dad always made a big deal about this day. It was bigger than Christmas.  I would get up early to my favorite breakfast.  Sitting beside my plate would be the first thing honoring my birthday.  It was usually a mushy card.  My lunch would be my favorite sandwich and cookies and inside the bag was my first little present.  It was never anything expensive.....but it was something special picked out just for me.  I could hardly wait to get home and see what was waiting.  Most years my dad would cook ribs on the grill for supper....or hamburgers. He would dance with me in the yard.  Then it was time for dessert and presents.  Sometimes some of the neighbors would come down for that...other times it was just us.  On monumental birthdays there would be a party with all my friends.   One that sticks out was my thirteenth.  My mom invited 13 girls to go bowling....they all brought gifts and I was thrilled....when I opened them....I had thirteen pairs of baby doll pajamas.  It was so funny. My mom said we could take them back and swap some....but I didn't.  My friends had picked them out....and I loved them.  I have had other memorable birthdays....milestone ones.....and some that were not so much.  My 21st birthday was pretty much my very first bust.  My new husband did NOT come from a family where his birthday was treated as a National holiday.  To him it was just a day.....and it came.....and went.  I remember crying myself to sleep that night(I know....I was a baby)....and vowed my new family would understand the importance of birthdays.  My Sunday School class threw a 30th party for me....it was a cookout.  My ex threw a surprise 40 for me....invited all our friends to a cook out.....but...when they arrived....I didn't know they were coming, talk about a surprise, and he was not there because he was fishing in a Bass tournament.  He won a boat so he was very late getting home.  I entertained people I did not know where coming...and cooked my own meal.  When he finally showed up....he was very proud of himself.....and I had a major headache.  My Porch People  surprised me with a birthday party when I turned 59....they thought Kat would be leaving for Moldova and threw a wonderful party....talk about a surprise.  I love them for it.  They really set me up.  Kat, with the help of the Porch People blew me away with a 60th and once again set me up.  This time I was going to a baby shower for Magen....and the theme was pink polka dots.....and I bought a pink polka dot shirt....and had a gift....and was blown away when I opened the doors of the fellowship hall.   Today my birthday is quiet.  Kat called me from Moldova last night (it was already the 15th there).  I was a bit weepy hearing her voice.  Today, April 15th is My Birthday.....it's also Kelli's, Jennifer's, Marie's, Karla's, Maranda's, and Heather's.  Happy Birthday to you all too......I hope you enjoy MY Birthday....ok....Our Birthdays!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KAREN!! This is my first time visiting your blog and I'm so glad I clinked on the link from the AtoZ Challenge today. I think birthdays should be over the top too. I'm so glad you have such happy childhood memories--especially dancing with your father. AND I'm with Yvonne, today should be all about you. Again, Very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
