2015 A-Z April Challenge - N is for Nashville

N is for Nashville.  It is one of my most favorite places to go.  I am a musician/singer and there is something about walking down the streets of Nashville that makes me want to write music, poems, short stories.  This morning though I have a touching story for you.....about Nashville.  When I was a child my mom and her best friend, Valerie, planned to fly to New York (another N word) to see heartthrob Robert Goulet in Camelot.  He was playing the part of Lancelot.  They saved grocery change and when they had enough they told their husbands the plan.  Both men were not as keen on the idea as the ladies.  My mom ended up throwing over a hundred dollars in change at my father.  It was the first and only time I ever saw them have a screaming match.  My mom ran to the bedroom, slammed the door, and cried until she was spent.  Daddy never gave in....and she never saw Robert Goulet as Lancelot in Camelot.  Fast forward 40 years and guess who was going to be playing in Nashville?  Got it!  Robert Goulet was performing at TPAC in Camelot....but now he is an older, more wiser Arthur.  The date of the play was near my mom's 65th birthday soooooo....dutiful daughter that I am.....I got tickets for my mom, my aunt, and three of the four daughters...plus our daughters to see Camelot.  We had center stage seats....in the first elevated section.....I wanted her to SEE him.  I also arranged with his booking agent for my mom to actually meet him....after the performance. It was all a surprise until the night of the play.   We watched the play.....I was so excited I thought I would bust.  After the play....we walked to the side entrance.....where Robert Goulet was waiting for her in his limo.  My mom kicked up quite a fuss because she thought I was lost.  She kept saying she was not going another foot more....and there it was.  The door to the limo opened and Robert Goulet stepped out....said, "Wilma", kissed her hand and proceeded to sing Happy Birthday to her.  She was in heaven.  He then took quite a bit of time meeting us all, hearing the story of the first attempt to see him, and signing our play books.  My mom was beside herself and I knew that I had done good.  It was not until Alzheimers  took her mind that we stopped hearing about her meeting with Robert Goulet in Nashville.  My only regret was that I could not take Valerie with me so that the dynamic duo could experience what they had tried to do so many years before.  Thank you Robert Goulet for making Nashville the place where memories are made!

I went to Nashville a few years ago and fell in love with the place.
Stayed at Gaylords, saw a concert at the Ryman Auditorium and visited The Grand Ole Opry, not to forget The Country Hall of Fame.
Wonderful post today really enjoyed the read.
