I Am a Global Learner! Imagine That!

I am in Perdido Key this weekend at the AEA's (Alabama Education Association) Minority Leadership Conference.  I know you are saying to yourself....Karen is a minority?  Actually I am.  I am one quarter Creek Indian on my mom's side and 1/4 Cherokee on my dad's.  BUT...being a minority is not important....this conference is about teaching minorities, being a minority, etc.  I love this...it is the BEST conference the AEA puts on.  ANYWAYS....today I chose to go to a session (we have to have continuing education units every year) called The DYNAMIC Classroom.  It was AWESOME!  The instructor was from Auburn University and the best speaker I have ever heard.  We started off giving an adjective that begins with the first letter of our first names that described us.  My name starts with a K.  How many K adjectives do you know?  I did Kooky  I had no clue just close to correct that was.  Our next project was to take a learning styles test and figure out what we are.  She then told us about the Analyticals (which I am not)!  Analyticals are:  verbal (both oral and written), respond to word meanings, recall data fast, sequential, process information linearly, responds to logical appeal, looks tidy,  plans ahead, punctual, reflective, recalls people's names, speaks with few gestures....(boy that one is definitely not me....my momma said if my hands were tied I would be mute.)  The global learner is visual, tactile, and kinesthetic, responds to word pitch and feeling, recalls images and patterns, random, processes information in chunks, looks disorganized, spontaneous, less punctual,  impulsive, recalls people's faces, and gestures when speaking.  I have some analytical tendencies...but for the most I am a global learner.  THAT is why I struggled so much in school with math...and to think it was just because of the kind of learner I was.  Now, over the years I have learned to compensate for my learning style.  Looking over the style descriptors...what kind of learner are you?  Leave me a comment and share.  The speaker told us that globals need to work with analyticals....good thing I am married to Frank...he is very much an analytical.  I know my global tendencies get the best of him sometimes but he is a good man and takes me in stride.  Gives me leeway....and reels me in when I am way out there.  What would I do without him.  If you live where time changes tonight...don't forget to set your clocks back.  Happy Saturday!

Hi hun! So happy to hear you're having a great time. I'm definitely an analytical type but I talk with my hands too, lol!

I'm back again, ugh - what a road I've traveled, and we'll be back to our Queen Lessons too. Sorry I've been away so long.

Sounds like I'm a mixture of both. I can recall people's names so well that sometimes it's embarrassing to me because I'll remember but the other person won't. So, I often will "fake ignorance" so I don't embarrass myself or the other person!

Well, I can never be pigeon-holed, but I think I am more of an analytical learner.

I always enjoy people who use their hands when they talk. Sometimes it can be exciting!

Glad you had a wonderful time at the conference. Opportunities like that can be so motivational.
