Be Courageous, See Courageous

Frank and I had not had a date night in a while.  We have done things together....but not been on an official date.  Friday night, September 30th, we decided to go to Auburn/Opelika and see a movie and eat at Olive Garden....just the two of us.  I love date night.  I love to sit beside my sweet man and hold his hand during a candlelight dinner....or movie.  I chose the movie and picked the first showing of Courageous at 4:00.  I am a thrifty shopper and knew if we went at 4 we would still get in for matinee prices.  So we started our date at the movies with dinner to follow.  Popcorn and coke bought (can't watch a movie without popcorn)....and we settled in for the trivia and previews.  At a little bit after 4 the curtain parted completely and the lights dimmed totally and the movie Courageous began.  I don't know if any of you saw Fireproof or Facing the Giants....but I did and loved them.  This movie was done by the same people....The first two involved firefighters and a football team....this one involved police officers.  I have to say...I have never laughed so hard in my life...or cried so hard.  I am going to temp you a bit with the trailer from the movie....if that does not make you want to see it....nothing will.  Just trust me on this one....and  GO!  Soon!
The movie was about the responsibilities/roles of fathers.  I don't want to give away too much cause I really hope you will go and see it.  I do want to share The Resolution from the movie....read it.  Pray over it....I guarantee you that if more fathers followed this....our families would not be crumbling as they are now.  What do you think?

THE RESOLUTION

I do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children.

I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.

I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.

I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength.

I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly.

I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy.

I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion.

I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family.

I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged.

I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.

I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.

I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.

I am one of the fortunate ones.  I had one of the best father's in the world.  He was a godly man and he definitely walked his talk.  I should have learned more from him and maybe I would have spared my children a father who was the exact opposite.  My heart hurts for them.  I have to say that even when a strong father figure is not present children can grow up ok.  I ws the father figure for my youngest....and on Father's Day she always calls and reminds me of that.  So, even though I am not a man.....I believe I too can  strive to follow this resolution.  It can't hurt.
