Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol 26

I almost forgot that today was Wednesday.  If you want to read some other responses head over to see Joyce at From This Side of the Pond and check them out.  I am so grateful that she hosts this each week.  It gives me a chance to vent, laugh, cry, and just be silly.  Thanks Joyce for taking this on.
1. How many times in your life have you moved house?

I was three year old when I moved the first time. We had lived in a basement apartment and moved into the house next door.  At five we moved across town to El Prado.  I lived there until after I graduated from college.  My next move was out of state.  Frank is a pastor.  This year we got our first appointment with a parsonage so with this move I have now moved fourteen times.
2. What subject would you study if you had a year to devote to it?  Irish Writers in Ireland, Shakespeare in England, or Cervantes in Spain.
3. What in this world breaks your heart?
Homeless or abused children would have to be my number one heartbreaker.  The other is the Sarah McLaughlin commercial for the animals
4. What is one item that symbolizes the times in which we live? Why?
I am going with the mobile phone. Everyone has one.  Face to face conversations are no more.  I have actually seen people talking to each other on the phone....standing side by side . People text and drive, play games and drive, talk on them in restaurants....there is no quality family time anymore...because everyone is on the phone.  I went on a girl trip last summer and it was amazing to me how much time was spent some of the travelers on a cell phone....either talking or texting.  I do not have all the fancy schmacy stuff....mine is to talk....period.  I don't want to know what my latest Facebook entry was....I get aggravated when people text me and don't even give me time to respond before they have texted me again.  My friends laugh....mine is muted or in my car....most of the time.  I don't want to be connected 24-7.  I don't like talking on the real phone....much less a cell one.  But, it definitely is a sign of the times in which we live that we feel like we have to be connected 24/7.
5. Share a favorite bumper sticker or t-shirt slogan.
I like to read bumper stickers and personalized tags....I don't have one on my cars. I am not fond of T-shirts with slogans either....but I won one on a blog that I do think is funny....but only if you have seen Deliverance....it says, "Paddle Faster I think I banjo's playing."  I can laugh at this....I am from the south.
6. How do you like your spaghetti?
I like mine with the noodles on the plate, then topped with the sauce, and then Romano or Parmesan cheese.  I do not like it mixed together.  Frank makes wonderful spaghetti.  He uses mushrooms and Italian sausage in it...and it is so good.  I love it when I come home, open the door, and am greeted by that heavenly smell.
7. What is one piece of advice you would give a recent or soon to be recent graduate?
With God...ALL things are possible.  Remember that!
8. I was thinking back to my own graduation(s)....high school and college.  I remember how each one was so special....high school...I thought I was an adult.  BTW (I will have my 40 yr class reunion in 2012.  Can you believe that?  40 years?  I can still remember hanging out with Carol that night back in 1972.   College (B.S.)-I thought the world was begging for me...(had a rude awakening there)....and with M.Ed.-I knew the world was my oyster.  I was woman, "hear me roar."  I also knew that my days of college were over.  I was 6 months shy of 40.  It was time to let the younger generations have at it.  What do you remember about your graduation?  Happy Wednesday.

Sarah MacLaughlin commercial - Oh YES!! I mute the channel when it comes on cause it just rips at my heart!

14 moves! I'm awful at moving. There is definitely an art to it and I bet you're very "artful"!

You're not going to believe this, but I thought of that commercial, too. I can't watch it; I have to turn the channel! And, for #2 at first I said "Spanish, in Spain", but changed it! That bumper sticker always makes me laugh, too! Maybe it's a "southern thang"? :D

14 times is a lot. That is a funny bumper sticker! I love to put Italian sausage in my spaghetti & lasagna. I graduated in '69. My parents had a family party for me while I had a wild party going on in the basement :)

I can remember feeling a little bewildered at my graduation - a kind of "what now" feeling.

I can't watch the Sarah McLaughlin commercial - I have to change it.
